Almost every small business in Pakistan is on Facebook, Instagram, or TikTok now. But being on social media and getting customers from it are two very different things. This guide covers where to start, what to post, and the mistakes that waste most small budgets.
1. Pick one platform and do it well
The biggest mistake small businesses make is spreading thin across five platforms. In Pakistan, the practical choice is simple:
- Instagram + Facebook — best for most local businesses: restaurants, salons, clothing, real estate, services.
- TikTok — best for reaching younger audiences fast; organic reach is still generous.
- LinkedIn — only if you sell to other businesses.
Master one before adding a second. A dead page on five platforms looks worse than an active page on one.
2. Post content that helps, not just sells
Nobody follows a business to see "BUY NOW" every day. A healthy mix looks like this:
- Educational — tips related to your industry (a bakery sharing cake-storage tips)
- Behind the scenes — your process, your team, your workspace
- Social proof — customer reviews, before/after results, testimonials
- Offers — promotions, but keep these to about 1 in 5 posts
3. Consistency beats perfection
Three decent posts a week for six months will outperform a month of daily masterpieces followed by silence. Set a schedule you can actually maintain — quality matters, but showing up matters more.
4. Use video — even simple video
Reels and TikToks get dramatically more reach than static posts right now. You don't need a production crew: a phone, good lighting, and captions will outperform a polished post that nobody sees.
5. Make it easy to contact you
Every profile should have a WhatsApp button, and every post selling something should say exactly how to order. In Pakistan, a huge share of social commerce still closes on WhatsApp — remove every bit of friction between interest and that first message.
6. Track one number that matters
Forget vanity metrics. For most small businesses, the only number that matters is inquiries per week — WhatsApp messages, calls, or DMs asking about your product or service. If that number isn't growing, change the strategy, not just the posts.
When to get help
Doing it yourself works up to a point. Consider professional help when you're too busy to post consistently, when ads are burning money without returns, or when your competitors' content clearly looks a level above yours. A good agency doesn't just post for you — it builds you a system.
